A Wayfarer In Her Natural Habitat Part 6: France

This coming Thursday, July 14th, is Bastille Day, a national holiday in France. Bastille Day marks the day in 1789 when the Bastille, a prison/fortress in Paris, was stormed by the everyday people in an act of rebellion against royal authority and abuses. The event essentially ushered in the French Revolution, and today the holiday can be equated in importance to Independence Day in the United States.

I honor of Bastille Day, this week I will be putting up a series of posts about my visits to France. It's about time this truly beautiful and romantic country got its due in my blog. I'll begin with a few "in-the-field" shots of a wayfarer caught wayfaring around various French habitats.

One wayfarer meets another. Statue of Ulysses in garden at Napoleon III chateau in Compiègne

In the Pyrenees in Lourdes

Dressed wayfarer and undressed gentleman, in the Tuileries in Paris

Wayfarer catches a cat...for cuddling. In LaGroie near Poitiers

Dwarfed by the great Jeanne d'Arc, in Compiègne, where she was captured by the English and sold to the Burgundians
